You often hear of someone moving to Henry County and stepping right into a volunteer organization. In 1983, this very thing happened with The Henry County Fair. Let us ponder on who it could be. What does animal health, livestock shows, and demolition derbies have in common or better yet, who? It is this year's honoree, Dr. James C. (Chuck) Lyons.
Chuck was born and raised in Summertown, Tennessee. He graduated from the University of Tennessee with the degree, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1980. He moved to paris in 1983 and opened Mineral Wells Animal Clinic.
Chuck joined the Fair Board in 1983. Since that time he has served a term as president, four terms as vice-president, and been in charge of the Demolition Derby since 1984. He has worked with livestock exhibitors both as a teacher, friend, mentor, and as a Veterinarian providing necessary health papers. Chuck helped to start the ultrasound program for the Jr. Livestock program. And on Thursday night you can find him serving as a "Ring Man" for the Jr. Livestock sale.
Chuck and his wife, Pam, are the proud parents of four children. Holly (JD) Mixon, Wesley Lyons, Justin and Cody Chilcutt. They live on a farm in Henry County and raise Romognola Cattle. They attend First Baptist Church. Chuck's hobbies include boating, skiing, and traveling.
In 2006, Chuck was appointed by the Governor of Tennessee to the State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners where he serves as Vice President of the Board. He is also currently serving as the CEO for the American Romognola Association.
